Mecanos is a website to publicize the group of membranes and catalysis with nanostructures of the University of Zaragoza. (MECANOS)
GOALS
MECANOS research in membranes and nanostructured materials started in 1992. First preparing silica inorganic membranes for membrane reactors, evolving during the 1997-2008 period towards the synthesis of zeolitic materials (including zeolites, OPT-octahedral-pentahedral-tetrahedral type materials and ordered mesoporous materials) and membranes for gas separation and pervaporation. The group started to work on dense polymeric membranes in 2006 and on MOFs in 2009, evolving towards thin film composite (TFC) and thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes for nanofiltration and gas reparation. MECANOS has then experience on several types of nanostructured materials such as zeolites, titano and stannosilicates, MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks), COF (covalent organic frameworks), amorphous (ordered or not) silicates that serve as catalysts, fillers for membranes or vehicles for drug or additive encapsulation. Currently, MECANOS develops its activity carrying out membrane molecular separations, such as gas separation, pervaporation, membrane distillation, osmotic distillation, etc., using membranes based on the mentioned materials. MECANOS also produces new architectures by robocasting, based on the mentioned materials, with applications as fuel cells, electrolytic cells, porous scaffolds and biocatalytic devices, among others.
MECANOS receives funding from the European Union, Spain and the Aragon Government for its research activity and also collaborates or has collaborated with several private companies such as: Industrias Químicas de Ebro (IQE), Nurel, Ercros, Orache Disinfection, Polymem, etc.
